The following is a step by step guide, complete with tons of screenshots, that will show you how to install WordPress and the SEO superstar, Studiopress Genesis Framework, onto a web host like BlueHost. Basically, this is the process I use when you order a WordPress Installation service.
1. Order Web Hosting
BlueHost is my web hosting company and host all my websites. They offer excellent service and I highly recommend them. BlueHost hosting plans start at $6.95 per month. They even start you out with a free domain.

2. Login to BlueHost
Once you receive confirmation you need to log into your account. Click the ‘Control Panel Login’ on the BlueHost.com home page. Enter the username and password BlueHost gave you and it will log you into your dashboard.

3. Control panel

The BlueHost control panel is where you redeem your $75 worth of free advertising via Google Adwords. The BlueHost control panel has lots of icons. Don’t let it intimidate you. Scroll down to Software/Services section.

From the Software/Services section, click the ‘Simple Scripts’ icon.
4. Using Simple Scripts
When you click the ‘Simple Scripts’ button you will be brought to script list. Click the third icon down, right hand side, under ‘Blogs’ subheading, labeled ‘WordPress’.

On the next screen, click ‘Install’.

Installation Preferences. The version of WordPress automatically defaults to the most recent. Go to the next question, ‘where would you like WordPress installed?’. Select the domain you want to install the WordPress software. Expand Step 2: Advance Options. Enter your Blog/Website name. And put in a default password you would like to use. As for username, ‘admin’ is easily remembered. Tick ‘automatically create a new database’. Tick the terms and condition agreement.

Click the “Complete” button. Now enter your blog’s URL and have a new look at your WordPress blog!

5. Log in to your WordPress Account
Log into your WordPress dashboard by entering http://www.yourdomainname.com/wp-admin/. Enter your username and password that you set up in Step 4. You will now be directed to your WordPress dashboard.

6. Install your StudioPress Genesis Theme Framework
On your WordPress dashboard, go to the Appearance tab > Themes> select the ‘Install Themes’ tab at the top > select ‘Upload’. Click ‘Choose File’ and select the StudioPress Genesis Theme Framework zipfile. Click ‘Install Now’. Once activated, select ‘Activate Theme’.

Congrats! You have successfully installed your own WordPress blog and StudioPress Genesis Theme Framework.

Gr8 tutorial.
I am glad you like it.
Hi Christine!
I’m so happy to have found you!!
I followed your instructions to install my genesis framework, but I see no “Install Themes” tab under the Appearance of my dashboard? I purchased Genesis and a child theme which I downloaded onto my desktop. What must I do to see the “Install Themes” tab?
Valerie
Hi Valerie,
Please click APPEARANCE > THEMES
It should be a faded tab next to ‘manage themes’ near the top.

Christine,
There is no UPLOAD option under DASHBOARD > APPEARANCE > THEMES
Sorry, the interface changed. THEMES > INSTALL THEMES > UPLOAD
This is a great tutorial Christine. Good work.

thank you.
Wow, thank you so much for this post. You easily saved me 4 hours of trying to figure out how to tie all 3 parts together. Instead I got bluehost, wordpress, and genesis all linked up in under 30 minutes.
Thanks for the straightforward post (and the visuals helped too).
yay! glad to hear!
I truly don’t have anything but “manage themes” under appearance, do I need to upgrade my wordpress service to be able to get other themes? I want to use genesis with a child theme.
are you using wordpress.com or self-hosted .org? .com does have genesis themes available but i am not sure to what extent the dashboard goes.
