Monthly Income Report – April 2011

Today, I present you with the second Christine.Biz blog income report. The total income made has risen, but due to lots of hard work and persistence. I am on a trial run, of working full-time from home, to see if I can pull in a decent income from online. So, I’ve taken every bit of free time and turned it a mad machine of productivity.

Current Revenue Impact

This blog runs a few different affiliate product promotions. I started offering Affordable Web Design services at Voodoo Six. And local SEO services at a Riverside SEO company. I also took the time to revamp my Thesis Gallery site and will continue to promote it.

Before I start, I want to be upfront. My mission: to make a full-time income online to allow me to spend more time with my family. I’ve been on a trial run and I love it! It’s been really nice being around for my kids – whether they approve of it or not. Plus, my husband says I am so much happier. So, I do have intentions of monetizing my online ventures but only by offering you the best content, products, reviews, and tutorials. I will not compromise my content or be viewed as spam to make a dime. I don’t work that way. Now that I’ve said that… ;)

What Worked

Google Adsense: This month, I saw an increase of approximately $14+. As you might have noticed, I implemented additional Google Adsense in my blog post with a 300 x 250 pixel image advertisement. The other two remain in the header and at the footer. I’ve also included Google Adsense in my Hubpages (which is also new).

With the recent rise in traffic derived from my current content, this has helped to boost earnings. While I could write more frequently for this blog, I think putting out pillar content once a week is more beneficial for me at this time.

FINCON11: Even though I made a boo-boo when I sent out the email (I am sorry y’all. it was an honest mistake). There were two sales for October’s event and commissioned received. Should be a mighty fun conference!

Affiliate Sales: Affiliate sales for this blog have started to generate some income. That was a nice discovery.

Contests: There was a contest from CheckFinder where you had to tweet about the contest. I happened to be the lucky recipient of those winnings.

Services: Rendered my first job with great results. And look forward to doing more sites.

What could be Improved

Newsletter: The Christine.biz newsletter is currently sent out when I have time to write more compelling content (if you’d like, sign up in the left sidebar of this link). Actually, I just revamped the newsletter with a fresh, professional new look. I would like to send this out on a weekly basis. Or at least consistently every two weeks.

Full-time Online Income Potential?

My Findings

Not too shabby this month!

Pillar content is a huge traffic driver. Especially with a good infograph and/or listing the ‘big dogs’. Of course, this is in addition to making sure you put your site out there (like submitting it to Social Media Today).

Expanding my online ventures is also beneficial. I found it important to make sure I keep a schedule of my activities. Doing web design, link building, affiliate site building, writing a newsletter and blogging can drive a crazy schedule!

Now it is time to figure out how to continue increasing and bringing in a steady source of income. And how to effectively promote my SEO and Web Design services at a local level.

But its not Automated

The only downfall to offering services on my behalf, is the process is not automated. I am not implementing a system that can reach A LOT of people at one time. Offering affordable web design – I limit myself to the amount of people I can reach and the time I have to craft these websites. Even if I hired people to help me, I still cannot reach and put up sites for thousands of people in a day or an hour.

Where by, if I created a system, I could accomplish the goal.

What’s Next

To Keep Writing HubPages. To get around to writing guest posts. Enter a few blogging contests and start some more niche sites.

My niche sites: I am targeting a certain algorithm. I started one niche site and am putting up another tomorrow. I will need to work on getting them back-linked and increase the articles on the site. I am sure I will bring it up all in a future post. And share the (hopefully) awesome stats with you.

My goal: 100 sites generating $10-$20/month. Then we will take it from there. ;)

So…what are you up to?

So, you are currently running Adsense (300×250) on all of your blog posts which, last month, generated $11.00. However, I noticed that the ad that is running (at least when I load) is an online college to ‘teach’ Internet marketing. Why not find someone who will advertise there for $15 or $20? I mean, the ad got over 3,000 impressions and if the ad was more targeted, I’m sure it’d get more clicks…Clearly more than 8. I think you could make more money in that spot advertising another way.

    • Hi Jacob – You are right, I definitely can. One option would be to use the target Adsense HTML code:
      <!– google_ad_section_start –>
      [...]
      <!– google_ad_section_end –>
although Google usually does a good enough job targeting the context on the site.

But my motto, “all good things will come to those who wait”. Being a fairly new blog, I am still building up the traffic grid to use better offers (something like using Kontera). Two, I need to put my advertising kit together. So Google Adsense is kindly being a space filler at this time.

    Hello Christine,

How you doing? Love the style of your income report as you detail what worked. You should probably add a what did t worked section and how you intend to make proper use if your new found knowledge. Our new? I’m new too ! And your doing a pretty good job with your website!

    Martinsays: Thank you

    • Hey Martin, if I haven’t done so already – thank you for all the tweets you send out. ;)

I will consider adding that section. I think in my first report, I did. Lets just hope I can fine tune and keep up the momentum.

  4. Hi Christine
Thanks for your income report. It lloks like you are doing a good job, and even if you didn’t take into account your ‘services income’ your passive income has increased over last month, and that is what it is all about.
I look forward to monitoring your progress and perhaps learning from your experiences.

  5. Hey Christine,

Nice increase in a month! :-)
I’ve been SO hesitant about putting adsense on my site. Still not sure- but it’s something I’ve thought about! I think doing the income report is a great idea too, I just need to take the time to do it! (maybe I should have started reading your financial blog when you had it, huh? :-) ).
    Look forward to connecting soon!

That is an awesome income for a young blog! You should be crushing the day job income in a few more months I guess! Great! Adsense has been good to me so far, but I am trying to make the income stream more diverse and cut half of adsense to make way for CPM. Hopefully I didn’t make a decision that will regret, but it is all a learning experience :) And thanks for all the useful plugins and wordpress/social media tips, I didn’t know 99% of it.

Did you go to the MVD meeting yesterday? I had to work and couldn’t go…

great job. good luck managing 100 niche sites at once. i’d say i have roughly 30-40 sites.. if i had more time in the day, maybe.. but it’s tough keeping them all high in the search rankings at one time. i tend to only focus on the ones that are already doing well for me.

i like that you shared your niche site. i’ve shared a few of mine over on my blog as well.

    keep up the good work.

I noticed a few times when I have visited your site that Adsense was running a Aweber banner in the header and you listed Aweber as an affiliate. It seems that an affiliate link in the header might be better use then adsense. This conflict is why I removed adsense from my main blog. IMO affiliate links are more valuable. Great growth by the way and nice income report also. Thanks for sharing.

    Hi Christine,
This is the first time I visit your blog and It’s great to see that you have do your work very well. I see that Adsense just only generate $22.65 which is really low. Have you ever thought about quitting adsense and putting more effort on Affiliate marketing instead?

  12. Great job Christine.

I also make a pittance from Adsense banners. I am waiting until I get my first $100 check, then I am going to find something more lucrative. I did pretty well last month with the CapWest affiliate program. But, they lowered the PPC and everyone is running these ads now. So, this month isn’t nearly as good. I’m glad I tried this because I see the affiliate programs as being more lucrative than Adsense. I’m thinking about FlexOffers or ClickBank.
